Synopsis:
Sixteen years ago, Rachel Price vanished without a trace, leaving her two-year-old daughter Bel in the backseat and a mystery no one could solve. Now, Bel's starring in a documentary about her missing mother...Except Rachel's not so missing anymore. She returns to their house, battered, wounded, and bringing with her a million questions and not enough answers, so Bel decides to go digging for them herself, but she might be uncovering lies and secrets people want to keep hidden...
This book absolutely did not disappoint!
The moment it begins we're launched into an unsolved mystery and the documentary crew pointing cameras into an annoyed Bel's face. The writing was simple and crisp, the plot had me hooked and I was so sad when I had to sleep instead of continuing. The story was well thought-out and well executed, the ending seemed a bit rushed to me, but I'm willing to look past that because of how much I enjoyed the rest of the book.
I loved Bel so much, she's well-written, witty, and funny, and despite pushing people away because of her abandonment issues, she secretly wants people to stay and love her. *sips tea* Ahh, my favorite type of character. The rest of the characters were pretty great, especially Rachel, seeing her reappearance shaking up the family and reading to see how they develop past it was heart-warming and incredibly entertaining.
An amazing new book from an author I greatly admire, a must-read for fans of Holly Jackson and fans of mystery books as well!
