Synopsis:
Becca's been skeptical of love since her parents' divorce, so she hides herself in the fictional world of books and happy endings. But when her ex-best friend teases her for not dating anyone, she lies and says she's with Brett Wells, who just so happens to walk past and go along with her story. The two start a fake relationship, but he starts to fall for her and she starts to let her guard down. Will they end up with a happily ever after, or will their story end in a tragedy?
The plot is a little cliche, and I agree with some other reviews saying the characters are a little underdeveloped, but I loved their chemistry and banter. The writing is simple and easy to understand, there aren't any super flowery language, but it's cute and compared to other Wattpad published stories cough cough fifty shades/after it is superb. The story flowed well and they might've dropped the L-bomb a little too early, but it's kind of expected in short romances like this.
I have a few gripes with it though, number 1: SHE THREW HER BOOKS INTO A LAKE. Like girl, if you're mad just cry into your pillow and throw it around like the rest of us 😭. Number 2: the parents of the main characters are weirdly obsessed with their kids' romance life, am I the only one who finds it weird that Brett's dad is bugging him enough about getting a gf he started a fake relationship over it? And don't even get me started on his mom being super co-dependent and weird with his dad.
Despite a few things I found kind of weird, The Upside of Falling is a charming and sweet story about teenage love, and how hard do I have to pray to get a boyfriend like Brett who would take me to a bookstore and pay for my books????
Blog Post:
y'know how there are two types of book boyfriends kinda, there's the possessive dark romance typey ones you would avoid like the plague in real life, and the sweetest, cutest, kindest guys you would die to date
Brett is the second one, and yes I would indeed die to date him, he's cute, funny, would give you piggyback rides and pay for your books, literally what else could you ask for
GIMME THE CUTE PRETTY BOYS UNIVERSE, HAVEN'T I SUFFERED ENOUGH, ISN'T IT TIME FOR SOME REWARD?!?!?
